Officials at San Antonio International Airport in Texas, USA, have unveiled plans to build a US$165.6m consolidated rental car facility (CONRAC) this summer, pending approval from the city council.

The CONRAC will be funded by a customer facility charge and will provide a conveniently located service for customers hiring and returning rental vehicles at the airport. It will also include two levels for short-term parking as well as a quick turn around (QTA) facility for fueling, vacuuming, washing and light maintenance. The new building will house up to 14 car rental brands and will be connected to the airport via a pedestrian sky bridge.

Frank R Miller, aviation director at San Antonio Airport, said, “The airport often provides customers with their first and last impression of San Antonio. Giving them the most contemporary, comprehensive and convenient experience at our airport is our goal and CONRAC will help us provide that.”

The new facility will replace the existing 30-year old hourly parking garage, which is set to be demolished. The CONRAC is expected to open March 2018, with the public parking levels opening at an earlier date.
