Chapman Taylor has been appointed as the principle design architect for the refurbishment of the International Departure Lounge in London Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal.

The initial design stage will start immediately with Chapman Taylor developing the design concept in collaboration with the airport stakeholders over the next eight weeks. The scheme is coordinated with a new landside search and security facility which will free-up airside space for a new walk through World Duty Free store, as well as other retail and food and beverage outlets.

Chapman Taylor director Roger Wilson said, “Chapman Taylor is the world’s leading architectural practice for aviation retail and transportation hub environments and we are delighted to be able to bring this expertise to work on a major project at the country’s second biggest airport.

“We have worked previously with Gatwick Airport and again look forward to supporting them to deliver their vision in creating a world-leading airport that rivals any other in Europe, if not the world.”

Chapman Taylor is currently involved in several other aviation projects including the retail reconfiguration of London Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 3 (T3) international departure lounge, the new ‘refresh and relax’ concepts in Heathrow Terminal 5 (T5) and the completion of the luxury mall in Heathrow Terminal 2 (T2).
