The Lafayette Airport Commission (LAC), the operator of Lafayette Regional Airport in Louisiana, has issued a request for qualifications (RFQ) from construction firms interested in building the new terminal and supporting infrastructure project.

The US$100m project includes designing and building a new commercial service passenger terminal at the Lafayette Regional Airport, covering approximately 120,000ft² across two levels. The first level will house airline check-in and office facilities, TSA baggage screening and airline make-up systems, two baggage claim units, rental car offices, and building infrastructure.

The second level will house the airport administration and TSA offices, a TSA security screening checkpoint, concessions, five airline gates with passenger boarding bridges and holding room seating, and supporting infrastructure.

The terminal complex will include a separate utility building, aircraft parking ramp and taxiways, frontage and circulating roadways, and surface parking for approximately 1,000 vehicles. The new facility is designed for future expansion, and will be constructed adjacent to the existing terminal, which will be demolished upon the new terminal becoming operational.

Valerie Garrett, LAC chairperson, said, “The beginning of construction that leads to a New LFT Terminal will be here sooner than any of us realizes. The first step toward that important milestone is the selection of the last group of professional firms to be selected for our new airport project. The airport commission has worked diligently to be inclusive of our community throughout the process of the creation of the New LFT Terminal. We value the community’s participation and the confidence in the commission.”

Once the proposals have been submitted, the selection process will include a pre-proposal meeting on June 1, 2017, where all submitting firms must be in attendance. Shortlisted firms will then be notified by July 7, 2017. A subsequent interview with the Selection Review Committee will be conducted between July 17 and July 21, 2017. The Selection Review Committee will make its recommendation to the LAC by July 28, 2017, and the LAC will act on their recommendation at their monthly meeting on August 7, 2017.

Selection of the construction contractor will complete the third and final piece of the New LFT Terminal project delivery team. The first two contracts were awarded to Heery International of Atlanta for program management and construction management, and RS&H Architecture, Engineering and Consulting for airport design.
