Architectural firms Nordic and Haptic have been selected by Avinor, the Norwegian airport authority, to design a new airport in Mo i Rana in the north of Norway.

The new airport will provide a gateway to the region, improving connections and business development opportunities for the local community, as well as attracting tourists to see the midnight sun and Northern Lights.

The project incorporates a new terminal, airport control tower, service buildings and various other structures. The preliminary study will be completed by October 2015 and will dictate the following phases of the project. The selection of Nordic and Haptic follows a feasibility study carried out by Avinor in 2010.

Eskild Andersen, a partner at Nordic, said, “This is a unique opportunity to create an airport where indigenous architecture meets sustainable and technologically innovative solutions. This is an exciting project to add to our airport portfolio.”
