Construction and engineering company Skanska has signed a contract with the Port of Portland for the expansion and renovation of Portland International Airport in Oregon.

The contract is worth more than US$150m and entails a 14,000m2 (150,000ft2), two-story expansion of Concourse E, including the addition of six gates. The scope also includes airside site work, modifications to baggage handling systems and various renovations within the existing terminal.

The project will increase the efficiency of airport operations, prolong the longevity of existing terminal facilities, increase the seismic resiliency of the concourse, and enhance the level of service for passengers. Construction work has already begun, with anticipated completion in 2020.
