Fresh from his appearance on the PTE World Conference panel that discussed airport cities connecting multimodality, economic development and community integration, Askin Demir, the CEO of Blaise Diagne International, tells PTW about Senegal’s plans to transform his facility into a role-model airport for western Africa, with excellent transportation links and a wide range of destinations.

The main stumbling block, he reports, is finance, which is more challenging in Africa than in Europe.

We caught up with Keith Walters, group transformation lead at IAG, and Manuel van Lijf, director of travel and transportation at NLMTD, after their presentation at the PTE World Conference in London to hear more about the Smart Ramp program – an IAG, KLM, ANA, Schiphol Airport, Washington Airports and Miami Airports venture to reinvent the turnaround process through collaborative innovation.

Stansted Airport has big ambitions: to create one of the largest terminals in the world. Its extension plans have been approved and will see capacity grow to 43 million passengers a year.

In this interview conducted after their presentation at the PTE World Conference in London, Chantal Lontay from airport operator MAG and Isabella Leone from Gensler explain how Stansted is using Gensler’s PerformaX, a parametric, data-assisted simulation tool, to bridge the gap between experiential design and commercial strategy, improve the passenger experience and increase revenue at the airport.

Big changes are afoot at Hong Kong International Airport, as the airport authority’s Steven Yiu and Jacob Cheung tell us in this interview at PTE World 2026.

For starters, the new Terminal 2 will open on May 27, 2026. Meanwhile, over in Terminal 1, they explain that the security screening technology has been upgraded to 3D machines that are quicker and more accurate than the previous x-ray systems.

They also describe how the airport authority analyzes traveler emotions and works to eliminate as many pain points as possible, to improve the passenger experience.

In our chat with Daniel Ketchibachian, the CEO of Aeropuertos Argentina, following his enlightening presentation titled ‘Argentina: a success story in airport infrastructure investment,’ at the PTE World Conference, it immediately became clear that Argentina has an exciting aviation future in store. Passenger numbers are growing, and Aeropuertos Argentina – which operates 37 airports in the country – has big plans to boost these volumes even further.

“I always say that bricks come before airplanes,” he reported.

After a fascinating discussion titled, ‘Tailored travel – is hyper-personalization the future of passenger experience?’ at the PTE World Conference, we caught up with panelist Gintare Norvilaite-Tautevice, the chief commercial officer of Lithuanian Airports, to hear her thoughts on the subject.

Hyper-personalization, she explains, means tailoring the airport experience to what each individual passenger wants. However, she points out that it’s possible to go too far. “There has to be space for excitement and unexpected moments,” she says.

Munich Airport, which won the Skytrax awards for Best Airport Staff in Europe and Best Airport in Central Europe last night, used its presentation at the PTE World Conference today to outline the major expansion of Terminal 1, which is set complete next month.

Speaking in the session ‘Expansion of Terminal 1 at Munich Airport,’ Katrin Hennig, vice president of owner representation for large-scale projects, and Jonas Dröge, head of user requirements management T1 Pier, detailed the €650m (US$746m) project, which will add around 96,000m² to the airport’s non-Schengen area.

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is preparing its apron for a more electric future, and today at the PTE World Conference, speakers involved in the project outlined the practical challenges of bringing charging infrastructure into a busy airside environment.

In the session, ‘Electrifying airside at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport,’ Ivar Bal, a special airport systems engineer at Deerns, and Dennis de Cock, an electrification expert at Schiphol, explained how the airport is approaching the transition to electric ground support equipment (GSE) – in response to growing environmental concerns and regulatory demands – while maintaining operations.

Aena has presented its latest innovation roadmap at the PTE World Conference in London, outlining the company’s strategy to support the transformation of airport operations and infrastructure.

The Spanish airport operator, which manages London Luton Airport and has recently acquired Leeds Bradford and Newcastle airports, said its long-term strategy is built around four key areas: improving the passenger experience, developing autonomous airport capabilities, exploring new business models and strengthening sustainability.

Vanesa Calvo, head of financing and innovation trends at Aena, presented the framework, which focuses on enhancing the end-to-end passenger journey while integrating new technologies across airport operations.
