Fresh from his appearance on the PTE World Conference panel that discussed airport cities connecting multimodality, economic development and community integration, Askin Demir, the CEO of Blaise Diagne International, tells PTW about Senegal’s plans to transform his facility into a role-model airport for western Africa, with excellent transportation links and a wide range of destinations.
The main stumbling block, he reports, is finance, which is more challenging in Africa than in Europe. But “we are ambitious,” he says, and plans are underway for new rail connections and runway technology, and increased passenger numbers. “We accept the challenges,” he concludes.
