GMR Airports Limited (GAL), a subsidiary of GMR Infrastructure, has signed a concession agreement with Kannur International Airport in Kerala, India, to develop, operate, maintain and manage its duty-free outlets on an exclusive basis.

Under the agreement, GAL will design, finance and operate the duty-free shops at Kannur for seven years, extendable by three years.

“We are excited about the potential of Kannur International Airport and our aim is to bring best-in-class brands, offers and shopping experience to our passengers that are on a par with the best globally” said SGK Kishore, executive director – south, GMR Airports.

Kannur Airport began commercial operations in December 2018, handling 1 million passengers within nine months of commissioning. The airport handled around 1.14 million passengers between April and November 2019, of which around 540,000 were international.

Kannur is the administrative headquarters of the Kannur District and is 518km (321 miles) north of the Keralan state capital Thiruvananthapuram.
