Jewel Changi Airport, a lifestyle destination being built at Singapore’s Changi Airport, due to open in 2019, has been named Best Futura Shopping Centre at the MAPIC Awards 2016, held in Cannes, France. This prestigious event for the retail real estate industry honors the world’s most exciting and innovative projects.

A mixed-used complex, with shops, restaurants, play areas, a hotel and even a five-story garden, Jewel is the result of a joint venture between the airport and CapitaLand Mall Asia. Best Futura Shopping Centre was a new award for this year, recognizing upcoming retail concepts with strong architectural qualities and original concepts. The use of materials, and impact with the environment and local community, is also considered.

Hung Jean, CEO of Jewel Changi Airport Development, said, “In developing Jewel, it is our vision to create a world-class destination that will enhance Singapore’s tourism appeal and augment Changi Airport’s position as a leading air hub in the world.

“With its unique features that will engage and entertain visitors, we aspire for Jewel to be a place of discovery and experiences for both local residents and international travelers. This award is a tremendous encouragement to the team and an affirmation of Jewel’s innovative design and concept.”
