Oman Sales and Services (OSS), a joint venture between airliner Oman Air and retail operator Aer Rianta International Middle East, has contracted Dubai-based design agency ODG to create the entire duty-free area within the new terminal at Muscat International Airport in Oman.

OSS had previously been awarded a 10-year concession agreement to operate the duty-free area within the new terminal and ODG’s designs formed part of the winning bid.

Oman Airport’s new terminal has experienced several delays but is currently scheduled for completion before the end of 2017. The facility will accommodate up to 12 million passengers annually within the first phase, which will grow to 48 million passengers once all four phases of the masterplan are complete.

The first phase is set to span more than 6,000,000ft² with 75,000ft² of retail space. This includes perfume and cosmetics, liquor and tobacco, confectionary, fashion and accessories, and several exclusive specialty stores.

Philip Eckles, global implementation director, ARI, said, “The world-class duty-free store concepts developed by ODG were instrumental in our winning bid. Since the contract award, ODG has worked diligently and professionally with our project team to turn those concepts in to reality.”
