Airport operator Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) is trialing several new e-gates from Kaba for use in the pre-security area at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru, India.

Domestic passengers will encounter the e-gates post check-in, where they will be used to check printed and mobile boarding passes, eliminating the need for a manual security stamp. CCTV cameras have also been installed as an additional security measure. Once cleared, passengers will then proceed to the security hold area for screening.

G V Sanjay Reddy, managing director, BIAL, said, “Bengaluru is a great location for us to pioneer new technology initiatives, with travelers who are IT-savvy, young and excited about independent processes. The intention is to provide all passengers with services that define the technological prowess and are a reflection of the city the airport is in. The e-gate is a definite step toward a fully automated and seamless passenger flow. As we grow beyond 15 million passengers annually, we are thankful to the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for their collaboration to effectively bring this technology trial to Kempegowda Airport.”
