Beumer to install tote-based BHS at San Francisco T1

Beumer Group, a global supplier of automated baggage handling systems (BHS), has been awarded a contract by San Francisco International Airport in California to install the first individual carrier system (ICS) for baggage handling in the USA. As a result, Beumer will install its tote-based CrisBag system in the airport’s soon-to-be-refurbished Terminal 1 (T1) facility.

Using a single BHS with centralized checked bag screening ensures 100% track-and-trace throughout the system. This provides greater flexibility for airlines and ensures maximum utilization of each explosives-detection system (EDS).

Beumer Group’s CrisBag totes were the first to be approved by the TSA for USA-based, in-tote baggage screening, further enhancing efficiency. This certification applies for use in US airports and for US pre-border clearance when used with Morpho Detection’s CTX 9800 SEIO explosives detection system.

The CrisBag tote system features a unique start/stop function; the system only runs when a bag is being transported, which ensures a high level of energy efficiency and low operational costs. The new system is scheduled to be operational in T1 in 2020.
