Vision-Box, a supplier of automated border control (ABC) systems, has installed its latest ABC eGate solutions in the departures and arrivals areas at Viracopos International Airport in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The eGate solution helps to expedite the passenger security process by providing both passport authenticity and biometric passenger verification through an automated and self-service process. The passengers are able to pass through immigration and emigration control, without directly interacting with the federal police, providing they are at least 18-years-old and hold a Brazilian electronic passport.

The advanced biometric system compares the facial image stored in the chip of the passengers’ passport against the live captured image, making sure that they are the genuine owner of the document. The system allows the federal police to remotely monitor every passenger at the eGates in real time, allowing them to evaluate red flag situations and to take immediate action while the passenger remains inside the eGate.

Gustavo Müssnich, president-director of Viracopos International Airport, said, “After Viracopos reached a record in passenger volume in a single year, this new technology has arrived to make the airport journey much more seamless and secure.”

Leidivino Natal da Silva, general director of Vision-Box Latin America, said, “A current trend in the aviation industry is to refine security processes in order to increase reliability and sustainability. Viracopos International Airport is highly aware of this and decided to focus on the solution that brings higher levels of innovation and orientation to the passenger experience. As an airport that hosts millions of people per year, the offered platform is the key to optimizing passenger flow, reducing the existing operational costs, as well as reducing the queues and waiting times, so the passenger may enjoy the retail areas as well as other airport’s attractions.”
