President Hassan Rouhani of Iran opened the Salam Terminal-Gallery at Imam Khomeini Airport City (IKAC) on June 18.

The opening of the Salam Terminal-Gallery means that domestic flights can take off from Imam Khomeini Airport for the first time. Built by Iranian engineers at a cost of Rials 7trn (US$166.2m), the facility covers 40ha and is expected to act as a model for other new terminals.

Located 30km (19 miles) from the capital, Tehran, IKAC ranks third in terms of passenger traffic in Iran, after Tehran Mehrabad Airport and Mashhad Airport. It is operated by the Iran Airports Company.
