The single runway airport will be constructed by 2025 to support the unprecedented rise in tourism on the island. The airport will be built at an estimated cost of US$3.5bn.

Approximately 23.2 million people visited Jeju Island last year, with 28.3 million predicted to visit in 2018 and around 40 million by 2025.
