Russian airport operator Basel Aero handled 3.4 million passengers in the first six months of 2015, a 5.4% increase when compared with the first six months of 2014. This was in spite of a 41% decrease in international traffic to 354,088 visitors.
Basel Aero, a joint venture between Changi Airports International (CAI), Sberbank of Russia and Basic Element, manages four sites across Russia including Krasnodar International, Sochi International, Gelendzhik and Anapa airports. Between them, the airports handled 3,074,704 domestic flights between January and June 2015, a 16% increase on the previous year.
Leonid Sergeev, CEO, Basel Aero, said, “Basel Aero airports demonstrated a confident growth on domestic routes in July 2015. We’re expecting new traffic records to be broken. Sochi International Airport handled over 20,000 passengers in June, while during a peak tourist season in August 2014, the airport accommodated up to 16,200 travelers.
“Basel Aero will add more flights to its airports to increase operations during the summer season. Krasnodar already has a weekly flight to Barcelona performed by Vueling. We’ll also welcome a Tehran-Sochi flight as part of the Open Skies regime of liberalized air traffic.”
