Swedish airport operator Swedavia handled a record 41.9 million passengers at its 10 airports in 2017, a 6% increase over the previous record set in 2016.
Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia, said, “The passenger increases in 2017 show how important it is that we focus on our investment projects and continue to develop Sweden’s sustainable and efficient airports of the future.”
New passenger records were set at seven of Swedavia’s 10 airports during the full-year 2017. Stockholm Arlanda Airport set a new record with an 8% increase to 26,642,000 passengers (compared to 24,703,000 passengers in 2016).
Göteborg Landvetter Airport also set a new record with a 6% increase from 6,376,000 passengers in 2016 to 6,760,000 passengers in 2017.
Further increases included Kiruna Airport, where passenger volume was up 8% to 280,000 passengers; Visby Airport, which saw a 6% increase to 491,000 passengers; and at Åre Östersund Airport, which reported a 7% increase to 531,000 passengers.
Overall, international travel rose 8% to 27,900,000 passengers, compared to 25,790,000 in 2016. Domestic travel rose 2%, from 13,725,000 passengers in 2016 to 14,022,000 for the full-year 2017. In December alone, 3,015,000 passengers flew to or from one of Swedavia’s airports.
Swedavia will be hosting this year’s Passenger Terminal Expo and Conference, taking place in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 20-22, 2018. More than 7,000 attendees from more than 100 countries are expected at the event, which also boasts more than 225 exhibitors and 375 expert speakers.
