Munich Airport in Germany has set up a new service for electric vehicles, in collaboration with European carsharing service DriveNow and automation technology firm ABB.
Eight quick-charging columns with a total output of 240kW each have three charging points and, according to the Federal Association of Energy and Water Management, provide the largest fast-charging location for electric vehicles in Germany. The average charging time of a vehicle is only 30 minutes from zero to 80%. A full charge of the electric vehicle will take about one and a half hours.
This infrastructure in the non-public part of the car park is exclusively reserved for vehicles operated in the carsharing sector. At present, DriveNow is using the new service at the airport with a total of 85 BMW i3s from the Munich fleet. The charging columns are located in the parking garage P20 in the carsharing parking area on level 01.
Within Munich Airport, there are an additional 36 additional charging points for electric vehicles, which are accessible to everyone. Passengers using the e-Charge Valet Park Service can hand over their electric vehicles directly to an airport employee in the anterior areas of the terminals, who then takes care of the charging and parking of the vehicle.
