Customer-facing renovation work at Dallas Forth Worth International Airport’s Terminal A is now complete. The opening of all terminal gates is said to be a major milestone in the US$2.7bn Terminal Renewal and Improvement Program (TRIP), which will update the airport’s original terminal buildings.
Parking, ticketing, security and concessions are among the facilities improved. More space has been allocated to dining and retail, with technology enhancements designed to make travel easier and more enjoyable.
A total of 26 passenger gates have been updated, along with two baggage claim areas, with expanded and updated security points. More customer kiosks can also be found in the check-in area. New food outlets include The Salt Lick Barbecue and Ling & Louie’s Asian Fusion restaurant joining the old favorites, while shops include Tumi and an iStore.
The biggest upgrade is said to have been in the parking garage, which has an electronic guidance system to help visitors find the nearest available spot. Overhead LED beacons light up above a vacant space, with information showing the number of cars on each level.
Sean Donohue, CEO of the airport, said, “We’re committed to putting our customers first with a personal travel experience, tailoring the ambience and technology to meet their evolving needs. Our team has accomplished what amounts to a remarkable makeover for Terminal A, turning a 43-year old terminal building into a welcoming, memorable space for customers that’s more innovative and energy efficient.”
Khaled Naja, the airport’s executive vice president of infrastructure and development, added, “The Terminal A project involved more than 6,000 jobs in design, engineering, contracting and direct construction work, so we are proud to have contributed to our local economy in that way. The renovation work we are doing in the TRIP program helps build the capacity of small businesses in the community and provides meaningful opportunities for the Dallas Fort Worth area.”
