Austin-Bergstrom International Airport has completed the West Infill project, which adds nearly 7,000m2 across four levels of the Barbara Jordan Terminal. The project includes a new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint and infrastructure upgrades for airport security and passenger comfort and convenience.
Although the future centralized TSA checkpoint, which will be part of the arrivals and departures hall project, will replace the need for the new Checkpoint 4, the airport decided to move forward with this latest project to deliver more space for TSA operations and relieve pressure on the terminal as soon as possible. Therefore, the West Infill project’s new TSA checkpoint will open to the traveling public on February 23, 2026. It has been designed to accommodate up to eight screening lanes.
The US$241m project also includes various improvements that were completed before the new checkpoint, These include an outbound baggage handling system, operational since December 2025; additional ticket counters; more space for airline and airport operational needs; art and design installations; sustainability enhancements; and new infrastructure such as an independent HVAC system for improved climate control, new elevators and modernized mechanical, electrical and IT systems.
Project partners include Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, Gensler and AECOM.
