Munich Airport has opened a new inclusive security checkpoint in Terminal 2, designed to improve accessibility and comfort for passengers with special needs and families traveling with young children.
According to the airport, the facility is the first inclusive security checkpoint of its kind in Germany.
The new checkpoint is fully barrier-free and designed to support passengers with reduced mobility. Instead of using an automated boarding pass reader, travelers are greeted by staff who guide them through the process and adapt the pace of the screening procedure to individual needs.
The design also reflects the airport’s participation in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower initiative, which promotes greater awareness and support for travelers with non-visible disabilities. Munich Airport joined the program in 2025.
Families traveling with children are also a focus of the new area. The checkpoint includes a bright design and short films for children, to help keep them occupied while parents prepare luggage for screening.
Additional space and a larger baggage inspection system have been included to simplify the screening of mobility equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers and strollers.
The airport said the new checkpoint will also increase the capacity of the central security area in Terminal 2 by around 400 passengers per hour.
Security screening operations at Munich Airport are managed by the South Bavarian Aviation Authority.
