London Stansted has completed a major upgrade to its main airfield security checkpoint, which is used daily by airport staff, contractors and operational teams.
The building acts as a checkpoint between the public side of the airport and the restricted airfield, and it is where staff, vehicles and deliveries must show ID and be cleared before entering.
Nick Millar, operations director at London Stansted, said that although travelers may never see the airfield security checkpoint, it plays a vital role in ensuring authorized staff and vehicles can access the airfield quickly and efficiently.
The new facility includes modern security systems, better working conditions for the colleagues who staff it, and a more efficient layout designed for a smoother process for thousands of authorized vehicle movements each week.
The development forms part of Stansted’s wider transformation program to upgrade the airport’s infrastructure and facilities, including the new domestic arrivals building, the refurbishment of the Satellite Two gate areas, baggage system upgrades and the construction of the airport’s on‑site solar farm.
