Dutch engineering firm BAM International has been contracted to undertake the second phase of the Terminal 3 (T3) expansion project at Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) awarded BAM phase one of the contract in 2013 with a project value of more than €130m (US$142m). The contract value of phase two is estimated to be over €100m (US$109m).
The new T3 building has been designed to accommodate the anticipated growth of international traffic, leaving Terminal 2 to cater for domestic flights. Phase one involved the construction of the main terminal building, facilitating 3.5 million annual passengers, including parking lots, access roads, platforms and a taxiway. The second phase will provide further capacity to facilitate six million passengers annually and will include a total terminal building area of approximately 646,000ft².
