Pittsburgh robot offers hope

A storefront art installation in Pittsburgh International Airport’s Concourse A is offering a message of hope to those passing through the airport.

Artist Toby Atticus Fraley has changed his popular installation, Fraley’s Robot Repair, in an attempt to spread some cheer during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Sitting in his desk chair, beside his old typewriter, the robot at the heart of the retro sci-fi inspired installation now holds a sign simply reading: “Dear Humans, you CAN do this – Robot.”

“I wanted to give it hope, not confrontation,” said Fraley, who moved his installation to the airport, from a Downtown Pittsburgh storefront, four years ago. In that short period of time, it has become a customer favorite in the airport.
