Chinese startup Cowarobot is set to launch the world’s first AI-powered autonomous suitcase after reaching its Kickstarter target of US$30,000.

Rover Speed uses obstacle avoidance and smartphone tracking technology to follow its owner throughout the terminal. The luggage also sends alerts to the owner’s smartphone if they exceed a distance of more than 2m (6.6ft).

The suitcase is already available for pre-order with full launch set for early January.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Rover Speed smart luggage to travelers everywhere,” said He Tao, CEO of Cowarobot. “We are confident that travel pros will love the innovations this luggage essential will provide them.”

The design includes an all-aluminum frame with polycarbonate shell, silent wheels with retraction activators, ergonomic handle with sensors and a 24 lb load capacity.

Its high-end features include an AI-powered guidance system and smart auto-follow function via radar and camera sensors.

Other features include smartphone remote control functions; LED status indicators; removable, rechargeable lithium battery; built-in power bank to charge devices on-the-go; and proximity alarm and alerts.
