Moscow Domodedovo Airport is to build a year-round resort at Moscow Aerotropolis, creating more than 1,000 jobs.

Governor of Moscow Andrei Vorobyov, Igor Borisov, director of Moscow Domodedovo Airport, and Andrei Kareev of development company Sky Capital signed an agreement on June 6, committing to building a multifunctional year-round resort, named Tropical Island.

The project, which is expected to host 4.5 million visitors a year, covers 50ha. The Tropical Island Resort will serve as the focal point of Moscow Aerotropolis‘s hotel and recreation cluster. The park will feature an entertainment infrastructure including a tropical forest, beaches, cinema, planetarium, a fitness facility, and an ice rink.

Development Company Sky Capital is to invest RUB35bn (US$5.4m) in the project. The Tropical Island Resort is scheduled to open within six years. PJSC Sberbank, PwC, and Kosmick Company are also involved with the project.

Once complete Moscow Aerotropolis will include different clusters, such as commercial, recreational, business, exhibition, industrial, and agricultural.
