Siemens has announced that its Logistics and Airport Solutions division will become an independent company called Postal, Parcel & Airport Logistics (SPPAL) from June 1, 2015. The company will be based in Germany and will remain under the group’s umbrella.

The move is part of Siemens’ strategy to secure the long-term stability of the company and to allow it to compete as an independent entity in a market sector dominated by medium-sized companies.

Backed by Siemens, SPPAL will have a sound financial footing to help it flourish in a highly competitive market. The company currently operates in more than 60 countries and is undertaking various projects with several large international airports.

Michael Reichle, Siemens CEO, said, “I am pleased that we now have the necessary flexibility to shape the future of the new SPPAL. We are doing everything we can to seize opportunities in the fast growing parcel and airport markets. In doing so, our focus is always on maximizing customer benefit.”
