Aelia, Dufry and Relay France have been awarded eight-year concessions contracts to operate the travel retail offering at Nice Cote d’Azur International Airport in France.

Travel retail covers three key areas at the airport: duty free, gastronomy and chic souvenirs. As such, Aelia will be responsible for duty free, Dufry for gastronomy and Relay for chic souvenirs.

The requests for proposals were made in autumn 2014 following the development of Terminal 1 (T1) and future expansion of Terminal (T2). Due to the development projects, the total floor area for the travel retail outlets will more than double from approximately 13,200ft2 to 28,320ft2.

Dominique Thillaud, chairman of the board, Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur, the airport operator, said, “After a complete renewal of our catering offering at the end of last year, this is a big decision that marks a new stage in the establishment of a retail offering showcasing our region, and keeping the focus on customer satisfaction.”

Filip Soete, director of the commercial business unit for Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur, said, “We chose to work with the best travel retail partners, selecting those tenders combining performance, quality of concepts, customer experience, and a certain sense of place, showcasing the Côte d’Azur area which we have made the heart of our project.”

All other retail segments at Nice Côte d’Azur Airport including fashion, luxury, watches and jewelry, will also be renewed over the course of 2015.
