K2 Security Screening Group has decommissioned, packaged, removed, warehoused and shipped equipment from the existing Terminal 5 security checkpoint at Los Angeles International Airport, in preparation for its complete renovation.
The assets included nine Rapiscan x-ray lanes, four Leidos Advanced Imaging Technology systems and five CEIA USA walk-through metal detectors. In addition, K2 technicians decommissioned, salvaged and securely stored five explosive detection systems.
The team redeployed some of the equipment at the airport’s Terminal 1 and Terminal 4 West Lobby checkpoints to handle additional passenger flow during the renovation of Terminal 5.
The new security checkpoint at Terminal 5 is part of the airport’s expansion and modernization package for the 2028 Olympic Games. The renovation will enable passengers to move between Terminals 4 and 5 without additional security checks.
