Kansai Airports has opened a renovated domestic area in Terminal 2 at Kansai International Airport (KIX), as part of an ongoing terminal upgrade program.

The new area was unveiled on April 1, 2026, with a ceremony attended by company executives and airport stakeholders, including CEO Yoshiyuki Yamaya and co-CEO Benoit Rulleau.

The redevelopment is being delivered in phases to support growing passenger traffic at the airport. The new domestic section introduces a range of upgrades aimed at improving passenger flow and reducing congestion.

Self check-in kiosks at Ninoy Aquino International Airport are now accessible to more passengers as more airlines have joined airport operator New NAIA Infra Corp’s automated passenger processing program.

The system enables eligible passengers to check in, print boarding passes, tag their bags, clear initial security and board flights through automated lanes, helping reduce queuing times and ease congestion at traditional counters. A phased activation of automated bag drop services is also ongoing.

Geneva Airport is introducing an airport operations system from SITA as it prepares for passenger numbers that are expected to reach 20 million per year by 2030.

The new airport operations system (AOS) brings together management of aircraft movements, gates, check-in counters, baggage systems and flight information into one platform, and gives airport teams, airlines, and ground handlers a real-time view of operations, helping them plan better and respond faster to changes.

For passengers, Geneva has also expanded its self-service bag drop – introduced in late 2023, the system now includes new features to speed up check-in and reduce queues and is available at all counters.

Travelers from 40 countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas will now be able to join the Clear+ identity verification program for a more seamless travel experience at US airports. International visitors can begin their Clear+ enrollment online and finish at a Clear airport using their passports. Once enrolled, they’ll have immediate access to Clear’s nationwide network of 150+ lanes to reduce wait time at the checkpoint.

The expanded list of countries builds on eligibility already extended to travelers from Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK, who gained access to Clear+ last month.

Passengers want simpler, faster, digitalized, more sustainable journeys, according to a new report from aviation tech company SITA.

The report is based on a survey of more than 7,500 passengers at airports in 25 countries around the word. Answers were taken before and after landing.

The results found that many passengers are demanding shorter wait times, seamless intermodal trips and real-time updates they can manage from their phones.

Nearly two in three say they want faster airport processing, and 42% want a single ticket covering air, rail and road.

San Diego International Airport (SAN) has implemented SITA’s CUPPS (common use passenger processing) equipment across its check-in counters and boarding gates in the newly opened Terminal 1, to achieve a streamlined curb-to-gate passenger experience.

The 111,000m2, 30-gate facility features 66 self-service TS6 kiosks, US Exit biometric face pods at select gates, and SITA Airport Vision flight information display systems throughout.

Airport Vision electronic signage directs passengers in real time to airline counters, and integration with third-party sensors shows live security wait times before passengers enter screening.

JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), the company selected by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to build and operate the new US$4.2bn Terminal 6 at John F. Kennedy International Airport, has announced that Materna IPS will provide its hybrid self-service bag-drop (SSBD) equipment for the new terminal.

Terminal 6 will deploy Materna’s Flex.Go hybrid ID verification and bag drop system when it opens in 2026. The biometric-enabled equipment is designed to enable airline passengers to verify their identification and drop their bags on the belt and go in less than 30 seconds.

SITA will install its state-of-the-art passenger verification and check-in solutions at Shanghai Pudong International Airport to improve the traveler experience, with common-use self-service bag drops (SBD) and kiosks for foreign airlines and their passengers, thereby making the journey through the terminal more efficient.

SITA has currently deployed 52 kiosks and 14 SBDs across the airport, allowing international passengers to independently check in early before counters open. Travelers will avoid long queues and beat congestion, benefiting from a seamless check-in and verification experience, according to the company.

The Destination Airport: The Runway to Revenue Growth report, which surveyed 2,000 consumers in the UK, was created to expose the passenger experience priorities and pain points that airport leaders must address if they want to benefit from the boom in air travel, which is expected to reach 9.7 billion passengers in 2024.
