Astra Group has completed a seven-figure contract to design, manufacture and install wayfinding signage across Terminal 2 and the pier at Manchester Airport.

The project forms part of Manchester Airport Group’s £1.3bn (US$1.7bn) transformation of the UK’s third-largest airport, which aims to expand capacity and increase passenger throughput from around 2,300 passengers per hour to 7,000.

Delivered in collaboration with contractors Mace Group and BAM Construction, the wayfinding program took two years to complete, covering the design, production and installation of signage throughout the airport approach, forecourt, check-in and departure areas, and the pier.

SAN Assist is tailored for passengers with non-visible disabilities such as autism, chronic illness, sensory sensitivities or other conditions that may make air travel challenging. The program offers personalized support and preparation resources to reduce stress and improve the overall travel experience.

Groupe ADP will change the names of the terminals and departure lounges at Paris-Charles de Gaulle, to make the airport more intuitive for all passengers, especially those on connecting flights.

Terminals will no longer have number and letters, which 30% of daily passengers report difficulties with. Instead, they will have only a number.

The numbering of the terminals will follow the flow of passengers arriving by road and the RER train.

London Gatwick and Great Western Railway (GWR) have partnered to help enhance the North Downs Line, which connects London Gatwick to Surrey and the Thames Valley.

The partnership aims to continue to lobby for station and service enhancements on the vital line and was announced at London Gatwick’s annual Transport Forum, which brought together partners from across the UK transportation sector, local government and communities.

The Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) has launched an interactive map at Tucson International Airport (TUS) in Arizona to improve wayfinding throughout the airport.

TUS’s dynamic airport map is provided by cloud product company Atrius. Accessible through the FlyTucson.com website, the map is available in a desktop format for those interested in planning ahead and a mobile version for visitors trying to locate a specific amenity while they are in the terminal.

Beyond the terminal, this map includes information and directions for TUS parking facilities, rental cars and the Global Enrollment Center operated by US Customs and Border Protection.

Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), the operator of Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, India, has announced the winners of its ‘BIAL Genie Hackathon’ in collaboration with Microsoft.

More than 11,500 teams of developers and data scientists participated in the challenge to use Microsoft Azure services to design new innovations and solutions to improve the end-to-end passenger experience at Kempegowda Airport.

Team Reboot Rebels were named the grand winners of the hackathon with the ‘Fly Ezy’ application, winning INR 1.5 lakhs (US$2,000) as a cash reward.

Malta International Airport has been awarded the ‘Autism Friendly Spaces’ accreditation by non-profit youth worker organization Prisms, making it one of the first businesses to receive the award on the island.

The award was presented during an event organized by Prisms in collaboration with Malta’s Ministry for Inclusion, Social Wellbeing and Voluntary Organisations, the Commission of the Rights of Persons with Disability (CRPD) and Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.

The ‘Autism Friendly Spaces’ quality label was created within a wider program, which is managed by Prisms, Autism Europe and several other entities, with the aim of supporting organizations in making places and everyday experiences more accessible to persons who are on the spectrum.
