Innovation for Aviation
Founded in Europe in 1949, SITA is an acronym for Société Internationale de Télécommunications Aéronautiques.
The company is 100% owned by industry partners - owned by over 400 members, including airlines, airports, and other stakeholders.
SITA remains one of the most internationally diverse companies in the world, as well as one of the most technically advanced and innovative.
Touchpoints, biometrics and baggage
SITA leads the world in touchpoint tech, with over 6,000 live biometrics touchpoints at work in leading airports worldwide.
SITA’s ‘gold standard’ suite of hardware and software solutions now include biometric options for self-bag drop to deliver operational efficiency:
– Up to 90% saving in process costs
– Up to 80% time saving, reducing queues
– Up to 50% space saving
Yet we all know that weather and airport operational issues can still impact baggage performance. Even with 99.4% accuracy in global baggage delivery that still leaves the 0.6% headache of reconciling mishandled luggage.
SITA AutoReflight takes the strain out of managing mishandled bags. Thai Airways recently discovered that SITA Auto Reflight took just 1 second to reflight a bag – 180 times faster than manual intervention.
Shared goals
In the 80s, SITA developed Common Use Terminal Equipment (CUTE) to support the Los Angeles Olympics. This innovation increased the number of airlines every airport could handle, enhancing the industry’s efficiency.
For the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000, SITA developed the first electronic visa system. Streamlined visa application helped cement Sydney’s reputation for organization, innovation and sustainability.
Recognition for innovation
The E-Visa was a step towards Smart Path. Launched in 2017, SITA’s biometrics technology creates seamless passenger journeys. Years ahead of the competition, Smart Path helps passengers enjoy the benefits of touchless travel at airports like Peking (PEK), Bangkok (BKK), and Newark (EWR).
Market leadership
With around 2,500 customers, SITA solutions help over 1,000 airports operate efficiently. SITA’s communications network connects the globe, linking to over 18,000 aircraft.
Over 70 governments rely on SITA technology. The goal is secure borders matched by the economic benefits of seamless travel.
