We caught up with Keith Walters, group transformation lead at IAG, and Manuel van Lijf, director of travel and transportation at NLMTD, after their presentation at the PTE World Conference in London to hear more about the Smart Ramp program – an IAG, KLM, ANA, Schiphol Airport, Washington Airports and Miami Airports venture to reinvent the turnaround process through collaborative innovation.
“It’s a very intelligent, respectful environment,” says Walters. “Nobody within that group is more important than anyone else. So we’re all able to discuss things very openly.” The innovative projects include an autonomous vehicle, a robot arm that picks up debris, and an automatic stand, plus digital twinning and timestamping technology. The results should be transformational, with improved daily operations and a much more pleasant working environment for airport staff.
