Sochi International Airport has been named Airport of the Year at the 17th Wings of Russia awards ceremony held on March 30, 2015, in Moscow. It marked the introduction of the Airport of the Year category to the awards ceremony, which traditionally honors the efforts and achievements of Russian airlines.

Basel Aero, the operator for Sochi, collected the award after a panel of aviation experts assessed the airport’s passenger traffic numbers, destination networks, passenger services and technical equipment. Sochi faced competition from Novosibirsk, Koltsovo and Sheremetyevo international airports.

Leonid Sergeyev, CEO, Basel Aero, said, “This award is a reminder to us that we have chosen the right path in providing highest quality services to our passengers and air carriers. Sochi International Airport continues to break records which kicked off in 2014 when we successfully coped with the Winter Olympic overloads and Formula 1 rush. The main airport award by Wings of Russia is a great impetus to move forward and continue the airport’s development.”
