Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport has selected Alstef Group to supply a new centralized baggage handling system as part of a wider infrastructure transformation program.
The system will be installed in a new Central Building located between Halls A and B, which will support the airport’s long-term development and improve operational efficiency. The project forms part of the airport’s strategy to modernize infrastructure and accommodate future traffic growth while meeting evolving regulatory requirements.
Bordeaux Airport handled 5.9 million passengers in 2025, serving 92 destinations across 30 countries with 26 airlines.
Under the contract, Alstef Group will deliver the baggage handling system, which will include its XSort cross-belt sorter technology featuring five injection points, 11 sorting chutes and three departure carousels.
The scope of the project also includes the integration of a BagSort system, installation of a new arrivals carousel and upgrades to check-in infrastructure. A total of 19 check-in counters in Hall A and 26 counters in Hall B will be modernized as part of the work.
The centralized baggage handling system will enable the airport to pool resources across the terminal complex and handle both standard and out-of-gauge baggage within a single architecture.
According to Alstef Group, the system is designed to improve operational resilience and flexibility while supporting future capacity requirements.
In addition to delivering the equipment, Alstef Group will provide a maintenance contract of at least two years following the system’s commissioning to support ongoing operations.
The project is expected to help streamline passenger processing and improve baggage handling efficiency as the airport continues to expand its network and passenger volumes.
