On February 20, India’s Civil Aviation Minister, Shri Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu, officially launched the national DigiYatra program at Mangaluru International Airport, which is operated by Adani Airport Holdings.
DigiYatra allows biometric-enabled, paperless travel using facial recognition technology at various checkpoints. Mangaluru commenced DigiYatra trials in June 2024, initially covering 338 of 36,895 domestic passengers. By January 2026, 24,512 of 79,114 domestic travelers used the system, reflecting 30.98%. The program has also recently expanded to Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Furthermore, Dr G Parameshwara, the Home Minister of Karnataka, has inaugurated a dedicated police outpost at Mangaluru to reinforce landside security and operational coordination at the coastal gateway. On-site holding facilities and operational workstations will reduce reliance on off-airport infrastructure. The outpost is also expected to improve coordination between various authorities, including airport management, the Airport Security Group unit of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and the Mangaluru City Police.
