The Bulgarian Ministry of Interior has partnered with Vision-Box to install several Automated Border Control (ABC) eGates at Varna and Burgas International airports.

The two airports are the second and third busiest in Bulgaria after Sofia and cater for one and two million passengers per year respectively.

The new security systems allow passengers holding electronically readable personal documents to enjoy an expedited border control experience by using facial recognition technology. Future developments will also include the addition of a fingerprint verification solution to further enhance the experience.

Jean-François Lennon, director of global business development, sales and marketing at Vision-Box, said, “In modern airports like Varna and Burgas, facing constantly increasing flows at the border, it is imperative to embrace new technologies that concede the traveler more control and better convenience during his journey, while delivering the most efficient and effective tools to the border control authorities to increase their capacity.

“Vision-Box vb i-match 5 offers a complete passenger experience package, combining intuitive and user-friendly interfaces with instructional animations and quick proactive adjustments to each traveler, which will make security processes less time-consuming and the Bulgarian airports more welcoming and attractive for travelers.”
