The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) has announced two new director appointments aimed at strengthening its operations and finance teams as passenger growth and infrastructure development continue at Nashville International Airport.

The authority oversees both Nashville International Airport (BNA) and John C Tune Airport.

Caleb Douglas has been promoted to director of operations planning and project coordination, and Samantha Hamilton has been appointed director of financial planning – capital.

Doug Kreulen, president and CEO of MNAA, said, “The aviation industry experience held by these newly appointed individuals positions them to provide decisive leadership on the airport’s behalf during this pivotal period of our growth that depends on strategic cross-departmental coordination and execution of our financial capital.

Skyports, the advanced air mobility (AAM) company, has been appointed as the lead vertiport developer for Korea’s first commercial vertiport network on Jeju Island.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Skyports and the Jeju Provincial Council signed on September 5, was announced during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Jeju Global Future Aerospace Confesta, held at Jeju Shinhwa World. The agreement will pave the way for AAM operations in Jeju, ahead of anticipated eVTOL operations launching by 2028.

Fiji Airports has awarded the contract for the upgrade of the baggage handling system (BHS) at Nadi International Airport to Alstef Group.

The FJ$26m (US$11.5m) investment in the new BHS includes an award of FJ$8.1m (US$3.6m) to Alstef for the supply and installation of a conveyor belt system, and represents one of the largest operational upgrades at Nadi International.

In 2024, the airport welcomed 2.9 million passengers, and passenger volumes are projected to rise to 5.7 million by 2033 and eight million by 2048, underscoring an urgent need for future-ready airport systems.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) will establish a S$200m (US$155m) OneAviation Manpower Fund to support initiatives to better attract, develop and retain the OneAviation workforce. This investment is part of the S$1bn (US$780m) announced in March 2025 to catalyze action and partnership in four areas of Connectivity, Infrastructure, Technology and Manpower over the next five years.

This announcement comes as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Workforce Singapore (WSG) have jointly published a jobs transformation report for the Singapore aviation sector, to take stock of its current workforce, identify future trends and develop programs to help Singaporeans seize future opportunities in the sector, which is expected to grow robustly over the next few decades, including the opening of Singapore Changi Airport Terminal 5 in the mid-2030s.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has published its annual Airport Accessibility Report, revealing 11 airports achieved a ‘very good’ rating while three were rated as ‘needs improvement’.

The report assessed 28 UK airports with more than 150,000 passengers in the calendar year 2024 against a standard accessibility framework.

In total, 11 airports received the ‘very good rating’: Belfast City, East Midlands, Newcastle and Teeside all retained this rating from the previous year; Aberdeen, Belfast International, Bournemouth, Exeter and London Luton all improved on last year’s ‘Good’ rating; and Cardiff and London Gatwick both improved significantly after being ranked as ‘needs improvement’ last year.

The Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru Airport City Ltd (BACL) and ANSR have launched a global innovation hub within BACL’s business park, named District I, designed to “unify and elevate India’s innovation ecosystem to a global scale”.

According to the partners, District I will serve as a central platform to accelerate deep-tech entrepreneurship, enterprise-driven innovation and the commercialization of academic research. By bringing together global capability centers (GCCs), IT service providers, accelerators, corporate labs, startups, VCs, academia and public institutions, the initiative is intended to foster an interconnected, collaborative ecosystem across industries and institutions.

After six months of preparatory work by a taskforce from both the public and private sectors, London Gatwick has launched the UK’s first airport economic zone. Centered in the region surrounding London Gatwick, the Gatwick Region Airport Economic Zone (AEZ) represents 7% of the UK economy – £155bn (US$195n) in gross value added (GVA).

PTE World (Passenger Terminal Expo) 2025 took place April 8, 9 & 10 at IFEMA in Madrid, drawing over 350 international exhibitors from Europe, the Middle East, North America, Asia and other parts of the world, to broker new partnerships, showcase their latest technological innovations and explore ambitious development projects from around the world.

Overall, more than 10,000 people from over 120 countries attended in 2025, making the show another record-breaking success. With the entire international aviation industry at their fingertips for three full days, there were opportunities aplenty for intense networking, solution sourcing and intelligence.

Collins Aerospace has unveiled enhancements to its SelfServ platform – an integrated CUSS solution designed to streamline the passenger travel experience and airport operations. The company is also hosting demonstrations of its integrated self-service solutions and new kiosk at the show in Madrid.

Integrating both check-in and bag drop, SelfServ has been designed to empower passengers to manage their own journeys through Collins’ new user-friendly kiosks. When combined with the SelfPass biometric identity solution, it allows passengers to enroll their biometrics at the kiosk to enable secure and seamless processing at each touchpoint, from check-in and bag drop to security and boarding.
