The connected restroom

The USA’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is leveraging innovative technology to provide passengers with a more enjoyable travel experience.

The airport is the world’s first to offer the KOLO Smart Monitoring System, a connected restroom management system which helps the airport ensure passengers experience restrooms that are clean, in working order, and fully stocked with toilet paper, paper towels and hand sanitizer.

The KOLO Smart Monitoring System is a wireless communication platform from GP PRO that sends alerts to custodians on a mobile device, letting them know if something in the restroom needs their immediate attention.

In select restrooms the KOLO system is also connected to toilets, sinks and urinals as well as customer feedback monitors outside the restrooms, meaning that virtually any restroom issue can be addressed immediately.

Here, Kofi Smith, president and CEO of the Atlanta Airlines Terminal Corporation, explains the thinking behind the introduction of the new system.
