GMR-operated Hyderabad International Airport is to organize a first-of-its-kind airport run, on February 29, 2020.
Promoted as Hyderabad Airport Run 2020, this unique evening run will not only engage the runners, but also their families and friends. Designed as a festival, it will feature food and music, as well as the run.
In a bid to improve stakeholder engagement, operator GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) is reaching out not only to the airport community, but to the entire population of Hyderabad City. The event is unique not only for its location, but for its timing – few events of this nature take place in India in the evening.
The run will feature two categories – 10km (6.2 miles) and 5km (3.1 miles). Registrations are already open and are filling up fast, according to the airport. The minimum age limit for participants is 12 years for the 5km category and 14 years for the 10km category. Participants can register online
As part of the run, the airport is also opening its doors to select registered participants, chosen through a lucky draw. They will be able to join a guided educational tour of specific areas of the airport operations, such as aircraft MRO (maintenance repair and overhaul), the flight simulation center and the flight kitchens.
SGK Kishore, CEO of GHIAL, said, “We are very excited to organize this event involving our employees, our stakeholders and their families and the people of Hyderabad. Our aim is to engage with people and promote an active and healthy lifestyle through this airport run that will combine running with a range of fun activities. The run will begin from the GMR Arena, near the Novotel Hyderabad Airport Hotel. Sponsors of the event include Aparna Constructions, Aviserve and HMS Host.
