The Cayman Islands Airports Authority (CIAA), the operator of Owen Roberts International Airport (ORIA) in George Town, has announced an open tender for all retail space at the airport as part of an ongoing redevelopment program.
All interested retailers will be required to submit a bid when the Request for Proposal (RFP) goes out to the public, giving the CIAA an opportunity to select the highest quality shopping and dining concepts to meet passengers’ needs.
Tenderers will be able to bid on as many spaces as they like, providing they are made as separate bids for each space. However, they will be limited to winning no more than three spaces in total and no more than one in any category. There will be a total of 17 spaces going out to tender covering the categories of food and beverage (F&B), retail, and duty free. The rent will be based on a percentage of revenue with a guaranteed minimum amount.
Any business with a license to trade in the Cayman Islands will be eligible to submit a tender. Eligible businesses that are 60% or more Caymanian owned will receive points in the tender evaluation process. Eligible businesses that currently operate any F&B, retail or duty-free stores at the airport will also receive points in the tender evaluation process.

The CIAA is currently working on finalizing the RFP, which will be released to the public once the tender package is completed and approved. The terminal expansion and renovation project is scheduled for completion in 2018.
