Airport operator Manchester Airports Group (MAG) has reportedly selected construction firm Laing O’Rourke for the renovation and expansion of Terminal 2 (T2) at Manchester Airport.
The report by news site Construction Enquirer claims that Laing O’Rourke fended off competition from the Chinese led consortium Beijing Construction and Engineering Group, John Sisk & Son, and Willmott Dixon, to secure the contract.
Key elements of the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme include the expansion and reconfiguring of T2 to become the airport’s primary terminal building, as well as the renovation of Terminal 3 (T3). The 10-year project will be implemented in a series of 60 enhancements and could cost the airport an estimated £1bn (US$1.3bn).
According to the report, the contract awarded Laing O’Rourke could be worth up to £700m (US$905m) and includes the demolition of Terminal 1 (T1) and the expansion of T2.
