Following a national plan to combat terrorist activity, the Australian Government will improve the passenger departure processes by installing Vision-Box biometric-based solutions at eight international airports across Australia. This will bolster security measures and help manage increasing traveler volumes.

The 92 Automated Border Control (ABC) SmartGates will be installed by Vision-Box over the coming year at Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Cairns and Darwin International airports.

The SmartGates will expedite each traveler’s clearance by matching a facial image with the biometric data stored in the passport document. While the identity of the traveler is being verified by the SmartGate, border protection officers will monitor the information in real-time.

Jean-François Lennon, vice-president of global business development and sales – Vision-Box, said, “The implementation of a new generation of ABC technology is a great step forward for Australia, meaning a boost in the country’s national security measures at departures, adopting a hassle-free approach.

“Furthermore, by monitoring borders through the extended use of facial recognition, taking full advantage of our last generation passenger-centric solution, controlled through user-focused supervision software, border protection officers may focus on added-value duties, such as profiling high-risk travelers.

“This not only enhances national security but creates more effective and efficient processes. Of course, travelers will also notice the difference, taking advantage of a happy flow when leaving Australia.”
