Airport operator Finavia has purchased several e-gates to scan passengers’ boarding passes and tickets before entering security in Terminal 2 (T2) at Helsinki Airport in Finland.
The installation of the machines will mean that security officers will no longer have to manually check tickets during security, helping to speed up the departure process. Several machines are being trialled to ascertain best practices before a complete roll out.
Ville Haapasaari, airport director, Finavia, said, “The new machines are included in Finavia’s digitization and service development plan, the aim of which is to make flying as easy and comfortable as possible. We are also supporting the wide-scale development program of Helsinki Airport and preparing the airport for growing passenger numbers.
“The new procedure is easy to learn for passengers, but, of course, it will require some getting used to. Our staff will answer passengers’ questions and assist anyone who needs help.”
Finavia is also trialling the same technology at two boarding gates in T2 in order to help expedite the boarding process. Finavia plans to install seven machines by the end of the year.
