Dubai International launches smartwatch app

Airport operator Dubai Airports has partnered with Dutch-based mobile marketing agency M2Mobi to develop and launch a smartwatch version of its passenger app for Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The app is available for both iOS and Android devices and allows the user to bookmark their flight and view their flight status, arrival and departure times, terminal information, gate number and baggage collection point.

Matthew Horobin, head of digital media at Dubai Airports, said, “This development is part of an ongoing series of digital initiatives that are aimed at enabling easy access to personalized information that allows our customers greater freedom to plan their journey and make the most of their time at the airport. It’s a service that will find appreciation among the increasing number of travelers that are now smartphone and smartwatch users.

“As part of the first phase of the project, the smartwatch app currently provides customers access to only the most important information related to their flight. There are plans to make the app more interactive while also widening its functionality to include wayfinding and commercial offers from food and beverage and retail outlets across the airport.”
