NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), a subsidiary of the NTT Group, is set to install two prepaid SIM card vending machines at Narita International Airport in Japan. The prepaid SIMs will allow foreign travelers to access low-cost mobile data communications using their smartphones and other devices while in the country.
Each vending machine will operate in both English and Japanese, and will be located in the arrival lobbies of terminals 1 and 2 from July 24, 2015. Payment can be made via credit card, eliminating the need for yen.
A seven-day SIM will cost ¥3,450 (US$28) whereas a 14-day SIM will cost ¥4,950 (US$40). This will entitle the user to 100Mb of data per day at speeds of up to 150Mbps for downloads and 50Mbps for uploads. SIMs are available in regular, micro and nano card sizes. Each vending machine will also offer customers a range of smartphones, mobile routers and various other accessories. NTT Com already operates SIM card vending machines at Kansai International Airport near Osaka.
