Warsaw Chopin Airport in Poland has installed a series of e-gates to automate the boarding pass inspection process for entry into the security and duty-free areas.
Passengers have access to three economy gates and one business class gate, as well as a separate entry point for older, disabled and reduced mobility passengers and those traveling with small children. Warsaw Chopin is the first airport in Poland to introduce the e-gates and has set up a system enabling it to process up to 15 passengers a minute.
Jan Gołąb, passenger processes and service quality specialist, Chopin Airport, said, “The passenger has to touch his or her boarding pass against the reader and if everything’s fine, the gate will open. If the boarding pass is invalid or wrong, access will not be allowed. The gates can read both printed boarding passes and those on mobile phones and tablets.”
Radosław Paruzel, deputy director at Warsaw Chopin Airport, said, “Passengers around the world can increasingly rely on self-service solutions for check-in and pre-flight controls. Such innovative technologies as automated boarding pass scanners help boost the airport’s capacity, while at the same time lowering its operating costs. This makes air travel easier and cheaper.”
