London Gatwick Airport has renewed its service contract with Siemens Postal, Parcel and Airport Logistics, to provide continued engineering support for the baggage handling systems (BHS) in the South and North terminals. The contract will now run for a further 12 months with the possibility of a further extension at the end of this period.

Matt Toghill, senior manager – baggage, London Gatwick, said, “It’s most important to maintain fast response and onsite support during operating hours in order to investigate and rectify suspected failures as quickly as possible. This helps to establish realistic response timescales.”

The contract enables Siemens to implement minor modifications and enhancements to the control systems as a day-by-day activity, as well as respond to urgent calls to investigate suspected failures. Out of hours emergencies will be covered by engineering support on 24-hour call out.
