Siemens Postal, Parcel and Airport Logistics has successfully completed the installation of new check-in facilities for Zone H at London Gatwick Airport’s South Terminal.

The project involved reinstalling conventional check-in desks in Zone H after a trial phase with self-service baggage drop check-in units. It also involved upgrading a further ten desks to enable the trial to be expanded and moved to Zone C.

Usman Afzal, project manager at London Gatwick, said, “From installation to test and commission, Siemens provided the necessary resource to carry out all elements of the work in a timely, efficient and professional way.”

Gatwick’s South Terminal comprises eight concourse check-in zones and more than 180 check-in desks. The airport recently renewed a service contract with Siemens to provide continued engineering support for the operation of the baggage handling systems at both the South and North terminals for a further 12 months.
