Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) is scaling up deployment of a physical AI solution from Outsight across Rome Fiumicino Airport, extending the technology to nearly all common-use areas within the Schengen zone.
The move follows an initial rollout under ADR’s Runway to the Future innovation program, in which the system was deployed in the arrivals immigration area. According to the companies, that phase delivered measurable operational benefits, prompting the transition to full-scale deployment.
The solution uses lidar-based spatial intelligence to analyze passenger flows in real time. By converting 3D data into insights on queue formation, congestion and movement patterns, the system provides airport operators with a more comprehensive view of passenger journeys.
ADR said the expanded deployment will support more efficient resource allocation and enable data-driven operational improvements. It is hoped that it will also provide the foundation for more advanced, predictive airport management capabilities using artificial intelligence.
Emanuele Calà, senior vice president of transformation and technology at ADR, said, “The decision to expand Outsight’s technology across common-use areas within the Schengen zone reflects our confidence in solutions that can turn airport data into actionable intelligence.”
He added, “Having full visibility over traveler flows in a sensitive environment enables us to act more proactively, optimize processes and support a more seamless and predictable experience for our passengers.”
Outsight said the project marks a shift from pilot to industrial-scale deployment of its Spatial Intelligence platform at a major international hub.
Raul Bravo, president and co-founder of Outsight, said, “Moving from a successful pilot to a full-scale deployment is a powerful validation of our Spatial Intelligence platform. By combining physical AI, lidar perception and real-time analytics, we are helping to set a new standard for how major hubs can operate smarter, more responsively and more efficiently.”
